Worry or otherwise known as anxiety is about fear that is turned inwards. It happens in our inner world, where our minds takes us down a road that seems to enslave us with negative thoughts and emotions. Our reactions to these thoughts and emotions is most often based on a desire to gain control and overcome a sense of helplessness. That sense of helplessness impacts our minds, our bodies and our souls. There are healthier, more enjoyable ways to cope with these thoughts but first we need to be able to recognize what is happening within our bodies so that we can re-train our autopilot reactions that leads us to worry.
What does it feel like to be anxious? Close you eyes and listen to your body
- Feeling restless, agitated, irritable
- Heart rate
- Tense muscles
- Unable to focus
- Endless thoughts
- Upset stomach, butterflies, intestinal issues
What does peacefulness feel like? Take 3 deep breaths to flush out the anxiousness you just focused on and close your eyes so that you can imagine a place where you are safe, content, and imagine what peacefulness would feel like.
- Notice the sounds in that place
- Notice the smells...
- Notice the colours...
- Notice your breath, your heart rate, scan you body and if you feels tenseness than breath into it imagining it being washed away by the peacefulness of your sacred place.
